Alkaloid Breakdown
Most raw or dried kanna leaf clocks in around 0.3% alkaloids, between the leaf, stem, and roots of the plant. Our kanna has tested at 6x the potency. These plants have been hand selected and curated at the farms in South Africa for decades, offering you the best kanna available. We make sure our kanna meets all quality control standards between the harvesting process and its journey to you.
There are a number of active compounds in kanna responsible for the overall effect profile. The ratio of these alkaloids together determines the characteristic of the experience. We test for the three most abundant alkaloids; mesembrine, mesembrenone, and Δ7-mesembrenone.
Other kanna products contain mostly mesembrine. Our's is uniquely high in mesembrenone, which is found to be a potent PDE4 inhibitor. This regulates stress behaviors, cognition (memory), wakefulness, neuroprotection, and inflammation*.
